In Kyoto, the former imperial capital of Japan, Masayo Fujio and Nobuko Takahashi narrate the painful account of their life. Through their stories, mingled with that of the district, Suujin, the past of an invisible Japanese community that is still discriminated today gradually surfaces again.
Biography
Sayaka Mizuno, Director
Born in 1991 in Geneva, Sayaka Mizuno directed several short films before obtaining her Bachelor’s degree in Cinema at HEAD – Geneva with distinction for her medium-length film Kawasaki Keirin. The film had its world premiere at the Nara International Film Festival 2016 in Japan, and received the Flaherty Talent Award and then the SSA/SUISSIMAGE Jury Prize at the Visions du Réel 2017 festival. Winner of the Hans Wilsdorf Excellence Award 2016, she participated at the Locarno Filmmakers Academy 2017. She finished her Master of Cinema at ECAL/HEAD in 2018 with her film The Invisible Sanctuary, that received high honours from the Jury.
