Synopsis

In Kyoto, the former imperial capital of Japan, Masayo Fujio narrates the painful account of her life. Through her story, mingled with that of her district, Sujin, the past of an invisible Japanese community that is still discriminated against today gradually surfaces again: The Burakumin, descendants of the pariah caste of the feudal era.
